HIGH SCHOOL BOYS

2009 Boys Tennis Season

The 2009 season for our program was one of the most successful in school history.  For the first time in the girls or boys tennis programs, the varsity team qualified for the WIAA Team State Tournament by taking first place at Sectionals; edging Bayport by two points.  The JV program completed a 9-2-2 season adding quality dual matches to the schedule.  To accommodate the growth of the program to thirty-six players this year, the Club team was added to focus on skills development.

Varsity Highlights:

  • 8-4 overall dual record
  • Sectional Champions
  • FRCC Conference and Tournament – 2nd Place
  • Appleton West Invitational – 2nd Place
  • Green Bay Metro Tournament – 2nd Place
  • Waukesha South Invitational – 4th Place
  • All Conference Honors:
    • Singles:  Alex; Michael
    • Doubles:  Mathew & Spencer; Leo & Logan
  • All Metro Honors:  Michael; Mathew & Spencer

The entire varsity team participated in the Team State Tournament losing a tight match to Kenosha Tremper 3 – 4.  Both #1 flights of Michael in singles and Mathew and Spencer in doubles also participated in the Individual State Tournament.  Both flights won their first round matches before falling in the second round to Marquette University High School opponents.  The only downside of the season was two cancelled multi-meets due to inclement weather.

JV Highlights:

  • 9-2-2 overall dual record
  • FRCC Divisional Tournament – 2nd Place
  • Sheboygan South Doubles Tournament – 1st Place

This year’s JV program focused more on the quality of matches versus playing everyone.  Therefore, most match formats were 2 of 3 sets with the 3rd set decided by a match tie-breaker.  The team had significant wins over Notre Dame and Manitowoc Roncalli while competing to ties with Neenah and Bayport.  With the focus on developing competitive players for future varsity positions, this team met or exceeded many of the coaching staff’s expectations.  Even with the emphasis on quality of matches, every player on the roster of thirty-six played in a JV match including the Club team members.
